Dr. David Prentice and Dr. Dennis Sullivan to
testify in support of S.B. 174 in support of Ohio’s Ban on Human
Cloning.
Ohio Christian Alliance is delighted that S.B. 174 has
finally been granted an additional hearing this Tuesday, March
11th in the Judiciary Civil Justice Committee at 11:00 a.m. at the
Ohio Statehouse. Dr. David Prentice and Dr. Dennis Sullivan will
testify in support of this bill, Ohio’s Ban on Human Cloning.
David
A. Prentice, Ph.D. , Senior Fellow for Life Sciences at the
Family Research Council, Founding Member, Do No Harm: The
Coalition of Americans for Research Ethics, Adjunct Faculty,
Howard University College of Medicine, former Professor of Life
Sciences at Indiana State University, and Adjunct Professor of
Medical and Molecular Genetics for Indiana University School of
Medicine. He received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the
University of Kansas. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Los Alamos
National Laboratory and Assistant Professor of OB/GYN and
Reproductive Sciences at the University of Texas Medical
School-Houston before joining Indiana State University.
His research, which has been funded by the National Institutes of
Health and USDA, investigates cell growth control; a current focus
is adult stem cells and their transformation into neurons and
other tissue types. He has testified several times before the U.S.
Congress, been invited to speak to the National Academy of
Sciences, European Parliament, British Parliament, and Canadian
Parliament, and has written articles and given frequent invited
talks and media interviews regarding stem cell research, cloning,
and bioethics. He has provided scientific advice for U.S. Senator
Sam Brownback, U.S. Rep. Dave Weldon, and numerous other Members
of Congress.
Dennis
Sullivan, M.D. Director, Center for Bioethics at Cedarville
University
Dr. Sullivan serves as Professor of Biology and has been at
Cedarville since 1996. He received his B.S. from Youngstown State
University (1974) and his M.D. from Case Western Reserve
University (1978). More recently, he completed an M.A. in
Bioethics from Trinity University (2004). He has been honored as a
Diplomate by the American board of Surgery (1985) and as Fellow by
the American College of Surgeons (1996). Before coming to
Cedarville, Dr. Sullivan served as a medical missionary with
Baptist Mid-Missions for three years in Haiti and three years in
the Central African Republic. He is a member of several
organizations, including the American Medical Association, the
Christian Medical Association, and the Center for Bioethics and
Human Dignity. His research and writing interests include
biomedical ethics, cross-cultural medicine, and exercise
physiology. Dr. Sullivan is actively involved in his church as a
Sunday School teacher. He has also taken groups of students to
Chad, Africa and to Central African Republic through Cedarville's
Missions Involvement Service. In his spare time, Dr. Sullivan
enjoys woodworking and racquetball. He and his wife, Barbara, have
three daughters, Julie, Jenny, and Joy, and a dog, Rascal. |
