On Friday, March 30th, Governor Kasich signed into the law the Founding of America Documents Bill, S.B. 165. The Ohio Christian Alliance, with other conservative groups, has been working for the past ten years for the passage of this legislation that will require Ohio schools to instruct the students in the founding documents of this republic, namely The Declaration of Independence, The U.S. Constitution with an emphasis on The Bill of Rights, the Federalist and Anti-Federalist Papers, The Ohio Constitution, and The Northwest Ordinance.

It was Thomas Jefferson who stated, "If a nation expects to be ignorant and free in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be." The great founding patriot John Adams warned his generation that, ‘A Constitution of Government once changed from freedom, can never be restored. Liberty, once lost, is lost forever.’ Our first President George Washington stated, "The Constitution is the guide which I will never abandon."

In a recent poll 75% of the respondents supported a national majority vote to elect the President. This speaks to the need of teaching the general public about The U.S. Constitution.

A simple democracy would be disastrous and would be unconstitutional. The founding fathers warned that "A simple democracy is the Devil's own government" (Bejamin Rush), and that democracy was mob rule. Without a representative republic, the freedom of the individual and the minority can be trampled on by the tyranny of the majority. This recent poll speaks of America's ignorance concerning our constitutional republic and is also an indicator that socialism in the public schools has taken seed in recent years.

S.B. 165, The Founding of America Documents Bill, is legislation that speaks hope of turning that tide, renewing knowledge of our Constitution and lighting a fire of revival of a modern day patriot movement based on the rights and freedoms of the individual, not the tyranny of the state.

My admonishment to every reader is to spend time with your children reading The U.S. Constitution and The Declaration of Independence, discussing with them how our form of government works and operates in a respresentative republic. It is good that the schools will now reimphasize these founding documents, but let us not forget to teach them at home. That is where true patriots are born.
