Update on the investigation of the threats against the Covington Catholic High School students.

This is a follow up to our press conference in January in which we called for the FBI and the U.S. Justice Department to investigate the serious threats that were made against the Covington Catholic High School students and their Christian school. As you may remember, the students became the target of counter protestors while waiting for a bus to return from the Annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. The students then became the target of a hate campaign generated by social media and media outlets. Serious threats were made against the students, their families, and the Christian school in Covington, Kentucky. The Christian Alliance of America and Ohio Christian Alliance called for the U.S. Justice Department, the FBI field offices in Cincinnati and Kentucky to launch an investigation into the criminal conduct of those who levied serious threats against the students and their Christian school.

After the press conference, we were informed by Special Agent of the FBI in Covington, Ky, that indeed the FBI was assisting Kenton County Prosecutor Rob Sanders in the ongoing investigation of the serious threats that were made against the students and the Christian school. The Ohio Christian Alliance also received a letter from the U.S. Justice Department Civil Rights Division, informing us they were in receipt of our letter, and directed us to the field offices of the FBI in Covington, KY that were assisting in the ongoing investigation.

Update:  As of Friday, Prosecutor Sanders’ office,  when asked by CAA President Christ Long if charges were indeed going to be filed against individuals who levied threats against the students and the Christian School,  informed us that the investigation is active, ongoing, and that the FBI is still providing assistance in the investigation. As to when we may hear a statement from the Prosecutor’s office, we were informed that may still be months away. The Prosecutor’s office has made records request of social media platforms. Undoubtedly, it is taking some time for these records requests to be honored.
