On Tuesday, the Ohio Protection Act, H.B. 286, passed the Community and Family Advancement Committee, chaired by State Rep. Tim Ginter, and co-chaired by Rep. Margaret Conditt.  The committee heard opposing testimony from the ACLU and Equality Ohio, a pro-homosexual organization. State Rep. Nino Vitale, the bill's sponsor,  also addressed the committee and answered their questions on why the bill is needed.  Last spring, members of the clergy from across the state crowded the committee chambers to express their concerns about the threat to religious liberty in the aftermath of the SCOTUS Obergfell decision on marriage. The nearly three dozen clergy, representing a variety of denominational affiliations, expressed their strong support for the legislation. The committee agreed and passed it in the affirmative this week, referring it favorably to the entire Ohio House.
