The Honorable John Kasich Riffe Center, 30th Floor 77 South High Street Columbus, OH 43215
January 23, 2018
Dear Governor Kasich,
The sudden closing of the ECOT online school, Ohio's largest online institution, has put the education of 12,000 Ohio school children at risk, including 2,287 graduating seniors. This crisis could have been averted if only the two sides, ECOT school and the Ohio Department of Education led by Superintendent DeMaria, had come to a working solution to at least allow the school to continue till June for the sake of the students. Unfortunately, that is not what has occurred.
Governor, we now appeal to you to intervene and urge both parties to come back to the table to formulate a working agreement that will allow ECOT school to remain open at least until the end of the school year. Thousands of children and parents are depending on this outcome. To not come together for a working agreement is unacceptable and would be disastrous for many of these students who have depended on ECOT online school for their education. This issue requires immediate attention so that not another school day is lost for these 12,000 students, including several thousand seniors who were on track to graduate. Many Ohioans are looking to you to give leadership and direction on this issue at this time.
Thank you. We will be praying for a better outcome.
Sincerely,
Chris Long President, Ohio Christian Alliance
