Justina Is Free To Go Home!

In a victory for parental rights, Justina Pelletier is going home after being held by State Childrens Services for 16 months in a legal battle dispute over her medical care between two Boston hospitals.  The case began when Justina's parents disagreed with a psychiatric diagnosis given by Boston Childrens Hospital and said they wanted their daughter returned to her original physician at Tufts Medical Center, who had previously treated her for mitochondrial disease, a group of rare genetic disorders affecting cellular energy production.  The Massachusetts Department of Children and Families moved in, claiming that Justina was a victim of "medical child abuse."

Matt Staver of the Liberty Counsell which battled the Bay State bureaucracy on behalf of the Pelletiers, said the ruling handed down by Massachusetts  juvenile court Judge Joseph Johnston was well deserved. "We are thrilled that Justina will finally be returning home," stated Staver.  "The family looks forward to putting this 16-month nightmare behind them. Justina and her family now begin the process of healing both physically, emotionally, and spiritually."

Will Riddle, an advisor of the OCA Board, launched a Facebook page, Ohioans For Justina, to show our support for the Pelletiers during their ordeal for the custody of their daughter.

OCA President Chris Long stated, "This is an example of government out of control, trudging on the rights of individuals and parental rights. Massachusetts is the proving ground for state-run health care.  This is only a precursor to what may be in store for many under the Affordable Care Act known as Obamacare.  When the State takes more and more control, individuals and families lose their rights. Through the advocacy of many, a victory has been won for Justina and her family, but careful vigilance will be needed in the months and years to come as the state seeks more control over the health care decisions of individuals and families."
